Yield: 4    Preparation Time:     Cooking Time:
Roast Pork cooked with Perry ensures that the meat is moist and makes a fruity sauce to spoon over.

1.5kg Pork on the bone
4 large pears
400ml Perry or cider
1 large onion
3 tablespoons mild honey or maple syrup
2 tablespoons olive or groundnut oil
Couple of bay leaves
To serve, mashed potato and braised red cabbage

Recipe Instructions

Preheat the oven to 200C.

Cook the pork.
Place the oil in a deep heavy pan and let it warm over a medium heat. Add the seasoned pork and allow the meat to colour. Once the meat has a little colour, turn the pork over and cook on the other side.

Add the other ingredients:
Peel and slice the onion and place it in the pot. While the onion is cooking remove the cores of the pears and slice them. Add the pears, bay leaves, Perry/cider and the honey/maple syrup to the pot and season with salt and pepper. Cover the pot and allow to bake for 50 minutes to 1 hour in the oven.

Slice the roast into thin slices and serve with the pears and juices. Great with mashed potato and braised cabbage.
