Pears Stuffed with Stilton Cheese Recipe

A cheezy surprise with full blast of tasty pear

This is a traditional starter from the Midlands of England.


2 large dessert pears
75g Stilton cheese, crumbled
1 tablespoon mayonnaise
50g curd cheese
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 teaspoon poppy seeds
Pinch of mustard powder
Pinch of sugar
Salt and black pepper, to taste

Recipe Instructions

Prepare the pears.
Core the pears and sprinkle the cavities with half of the lemon juice.

Make the cheese mixture.
Mix together the cheeses and fill the pear cavities with as much of the creamed cheese as possible. Cover the pears and place them in the refrigerator to chill until you are ready to serve.

Make the dressing.
Whisk together the oil, mayonnaise, lemon juice, mustard, sugar and poppy seeds. Season this with salt and pepper. Divide the dressing between four serving plates.

Cut each pear lengthways in half and then slice it into about 4 pieces across and fan the pieces out. Place the pears cut side down on the prepared plates and serve immediately.
