Pear and Apple Chutney Recipe

An easy to make pear and apple chutney perfest for a fruity dessert

A fruity and tasty recipe that is simple to make.


1.4kg pears
450g onions
2 cooking apples
450g seedless raisins
Juice and grated rind of 2 lemons
570ml white distilled vinegar
450g soft brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon salt
1 garlic clove
1 teaspoon hot chilli powder or cayenne pepper
½ teaspoon nutmeg

Recipe Instructions

Prepare the ingredients.
Peel, core and chop up the pears and apples. Peel and chop up the onions. Crush the garlic.

Cook the ingredients.
Place all the ingredients into a large pan along with the vinegar and stir it well with a wooden spoon. Bring the mixture to the boil then reduce the heat and allow to simmer for 2 hours stirring occasionally until it thickens.

Fill the jars.
Spoon the chutney into hot, clean and sterilized jars. Cover the jars and seal them. Let the chutney cool and then label the jars.

Makes 1.8kg of pear chutney.

    Sounds great but what is the correct way of sterilising jars (is the dishwasher ok for that?), and also how do I seal the jars?
